An introduction to artists' books, this workshop will focus on the juxtaposition of text and image, page layout, and pacing to create a narrative artist's book. Learn six book structures and several methods of image making: hand printing linoleum blocks, gelatin printing, pochoir, trace monotypes, and paper cutting. Quick exercises at the beginning of each meeting will free-up the hands and mind before moving onto more complex structures and concepts. Each participant will produce a book which they may choose to edition and exchange with other participants by mail.

*We are offering a reduced rate to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) participants to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom this does not apply, register at the rate listed first and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make reduced rates available.
