Beyond the Book: Book Repair
Saturday, October 17 ; 4–5pm CT
Books are resilient objects that face many dangers to their integrity, including water, bugs, mold, and human destruction.
Join us in MCBA’s studios for community, hospitality, and to learn more about damaged books from the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library’s collection of rare books and manuscripts. Learn from HMML curators—Dr. Catherine Walsh and Dr. Matthew Heintzelman—how books are being protected and cared for in their current state. Turn the pages of a book that has been eaten by bookworms or discolored by smoke, or even pages that are disintegrating because of the acidic ink used.
